“The Second Glance,” starring David Roche
A short film by Nic Askew; produced by Edwin Escobar
David Roche is an inspirational humorist, motivational speaker and performer who has transformed the challenges and gifts of living with a facial disfigurement into a compelling message that uplifts and delights audiences around the world. David has been featured in four films, including Shameless, a 2006 feature-length documentary by Bonnie Sherr Klein from the National Film Board of Canada. Now, with the publication of his first book, The Church of 80% Sincerity, he is also an author. Meet David at www.davidroche.com.

Nic Askew creates the films, words, music & images for the Soul Biographies Project. His short films show people & life in a way perhaps never before captured on film. By capturing the intangible, he gives us a direct experience of human spirit. From the famous to the entirely unknown, Nic’s film subjects have no tangible pattern save the common spark of ‘life & curiosity’ which play out in front of his camera.
His previous weekly adventure in film—monday9am tv—has affected the lives of 100s of thousands.
At 44, Nic is an Englishman living in Minneapolis, USA with one wife, and—by Christmas 2008 and if you count the dog, which he does—with four children under 5½. The content on soulbiographies.com will always be a more accurate reflection of Nic than the catalogue of the events of his life could ever be. If he listed what he’d done, you’d probably think that’s who he is.

The standard catalogue of Edwin Escobar’s life to date is impressive by any standard. As an entrepreneur in its truest sense, he’s built a formidable collection of businesses in a spirit that manages to re-distribute wealth, both in its obvious sense, and in its less obvious but perhaps truer sense.
And as a curious soul, searching for meaning in his early 30s he ignored the obvious course taken by so many in his position, and left his businesses in favour of the Deanship of a University.
More recently, as an emerging leader on the world stage, he has a subtly influential voice on how the world could be. I imagine that voice will only become wiser.
But that all has little to do with our partnership. Such a partnership could never be based on what has been done. But it is about the spirit in which it has been done. And, because we both have the desire to see with clarity. And to explore the unknown. To explore life.
Edwin has three children and a large collection of dogs. And motorbikes. And he’s deeply in love with his country. Guatemala. And with life.

I really liked this movie. Not only was David Roche funny and endearing, but the entire video was done beautifully. The Soul Biographies project is really amazing, thanks for drawing my attention to it.
