Meet the unstoppable & unflappable Ricky James

Last week we profiled Aaron Fotheringham, a rising-superstar elite-wheelchair-skateboarder who’s sponsored by Colours Wheelchairs.
Aaron continues to make headlines around the world. But this week it’s another Team Colours member, Ricky James, who’s in the news…

He used to be an amateur motocross racer who rode for Honda of Houston. Then, on March 10, 2005 in Lake Whitney, Texas, while motocross racing, Ricky James crashed his bike and broke his back in half, crushing his T7 vertebrae and leaving him a paraplegic. A year later, James was back on his bike, modified for his disability, and raced the exact same course he crashed at. James has managed to continue to motorcycle and truck race, but decided this year to take on another challenge…the Ironman Triathlon. (In fact, he just recently completed his second Ironman Championship, in Clearwater, Florida…and won his class!)
For those of you who missed the NBC special on the 2008 World Ironman Championship that aired recently, here’s the segment on Ricky. Grab the Kleenex:
