Photo caption, written by Dave Roche:
This is me trying to look like the disfigured Marlon Brando. Please take note of my version of a sullen look, the black leather jacket, the slouch. I am outside of San Francisco’s Magic Theatre a few years ago, when I appeared in the world premiere of Charles Mee’s “Summertime” with Kenn Watt as director. The photo is very different than what was happening on stage. It was my first ensemble acting experience since I was 15. I was among very talented equity actors and totally at sea because I was used to being able to do whatever I wanted to as a solo performer. But now I had to do what the director said and do it the same way every time. Perhaps you can tell from my facial expression that I did get to see female cast members half naked in the dressing room sometimes. That is something you don’t get as a solo performer.
