Headlines Theatre’s After Homelessness Photography Contest

After we published info on July 1st about Headlines Theatre’s fantastic AFTER HOMELESSNESS… project, we received a very gracious thank you note from Artistic/Managing Director David Diamond. A few days later, we received another email, this one from Headlines’ official publicist Gabriela De Lucca:
Thank you so much for posting the call out to participants. I’m not sure if David told you, but we are holding a photography contest to find the image for our promotional materials. We are searching for an image that fits with the title of the production after homelessness… It is open to amateur and professional photographers, with first prize being $500 [plus use in publicity materials] and second prize $250 [plus display on Headlines' website]. We purchased ten disposable cameras which have been distributed to interested people on the downtown East side [of Vancouver] to ensure that they have the option to take part in the contest. We have partnered with the Gallery Gachet here is Vancouver (www.gachet.org, they aim at working with artists with mental health issues) on an exhibition of the top ten or so entries. The exhibit will open November 6 to the 29. Gachet is also organizing photography workshops for people that do not have access to cameras or are interested in getting tips from professional photographers on composition, form, etc. I am very excited about this and was wondering if you might be able to post the information for the contest on Irked.

As a part of the upcoming production on issues of homelessness and mental health, Headlines Theatre is excited to launch a Photo Contest seeking the image for the poster. What is the photo that fits in the title: “after homelessness…”

***Submissions deadline: August 24, 2009***
Pertinent details:
- Only one entry per person.
- Accepted formats include:
- Digital images—Please submit a low-resolution (72dpi) version. Please be aware that the winner of the First Prize will have to submit a high-resolution (300dpi) version as well.
- Print images—8 x 10 maximum size.
- Both Black & White OR Colour photos will be accepted.
- Please submit materials along with your name and full contact information.
- Please note that materials will not be returned.
- The winning photograph will be used in all promotional materials for the AFTER HOMELESSNESS… publicity campaign.
- The top ten photographs will also be showcased in a gallery exhibition at the Gallery Gachet beginning November 6, 2009.
- The photographer will retain all rights to the photographic image, and will grant Headlines Theatre the rights to the image in perpetuity for use in relation to Headlines’ work, and to reproduce/adapt the image as we see fit in both print and electronic form.
- PLEASE NOTE: If the winning images include a shot of a person who is identifiable, the photographer will need to get a signed release form from that person to accompany the image.
- Digital images can be submitted by email to: photocontest@headlinestheatre.com.
