Background info:

Through Deaf Eyes, as you may know,  is a two-hour documentary (narrated by Stockard Channing) that “explores 200 years of Deaf life in America. The film includes interviews with prominent members of the Deaf community, including actress Marlee Matlin and Gallaudet University president emeritus I. King Jordan.” It’s a great documentary, “beloved” and “cherished” by the Deaf Community. Netflix has the film available on their website as an online streaming option, which means that people can watch it online—anytime—without even renting a DVD. There’s only one teensy weensy problem, one very minor pickle: the Netflix version of Through Deaf Eyes ISN’T CAPTIONED!!!

.

Quoting Amy Cohen Efron:

I cannot imagine that Netflix would post this documentary as an online streaming option which Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals are unable to watch because there [are] no captions available! This has to STOP! They cannot do this to us! Not this kind of DOCUMENTARY! That’s a NO-NO!

P.S. Netflix currently has no plans to expand into the Canadian market. Damn it!

P.P.S. The full 2-hour version of Through Deaf Eyes can be found here.

Extra funny – the Google version has no sound after the first two minutes.
